The official BETD Energiewende Tours enable participants to visit and learn about innovative companies and change-makers at the very forefront of the energy transition.  Each year, a range of onsite tours and virtual tour elements provide BETD guests, both in Berlin and online, the opportunity to meet company representatives, go within company grounds and learn about their technologies, projects, and solutions for the future of sustainable energy systems and a carbon neutral society. This Guided Tour offers BETD guests the opportunity to visit the Urban Tech Republic on the site of the former Tegel Airport. By attracting unique start-ups and industrial companies, this location has developed into an innovative research and industrial park. 
As part of this BETD side event, various energy sources and technologies in the field of energy transition will be covered, including hydrogen, system flexibility as well as wind power and heat. The tour will feature a presentation of the structure and benefits of the local business community as well as demonstrations of innovative technology solutions. 

Energiewende Onsite Guided Tour: Berliner Energie und Wärme AG Refrigeration Center Potsdamer Platz

Berlin's re-communalised heating supplier BEW Berliner Energie und Wärme continues to drive forward the heating transition in Berlin. At Potsdamer Platz, a large and high-temperature heat pump is converting refrigeration into climate-friendly heat. Since 1997 the cooling centre supplies around 12,000 offices, 1,000 flats, and many cultural institutions with locally generated cooling. The previously untapped waste heat is now used to supply around 30,000 households with hot water and around 3,000 households with heat in winter, saving around 6,500 tonnes of CO2 per year. Join this BETD Guided Tour in the heart of Berlin and learn about innovative heating and cooling solutions for the decarbonisation of urban energy supply.
